Screens is a reimagining of Florencio Zavala's 2017 performance piece, presented during GlugLA Spring Edition. Now updated for 2024, this visually striking and thought-provoking video delves into humanity's ever-evolving relationship with screens. From home appliances and mobile devices to theaters and digital interfaces, Screens traverses the history, utility, and omnipresence of screen-based technologies. Through poetic reflection and a lineage of hypothetical innovations, the piece oscillates between optimism and dystopia, revealing our reliance on and entanglement with these glowing surfaces.
